Certification Biocide

Biocides are chemical substances or microorganisms that aim to destroy, eliminate, render harmless, prevent the action of, or exert a controlling effect on any harmful organism. They are used in a variety of applications, including food processing, hospital-acquired infections and antifouling paints for ship hulls.

In order to be placed on the market, biocidal products must have their active substances approved at European level. In addition, they must be assessed and authorisedEN*** at EU level to ensure that they are safe for the environment, animals, human beings and plants, and suitable for their intended uses.

Intertek can support you in navigating the complex process of getting your biocidal product on the market. We offer regulatory support and training courses to help you comply with the regulations. For example, we can ensure that your product complies with the requirements of the European Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR).

Thermography

Thermography uses an infrared camera to capture and record a two-dimensional picture or video of the temperature variations on an object. Warm objects stand out against cooler backgrounds and are therefore easily detectable, even at night. It is a non-contact inspection technique that can find deteriorating components before failure.

It is also used by firemen to find persons in the smoke and localize the base of a fire, as well as by maintenance technicians to locate overheating joints or sections on power lines that are a sign of impending failure. Building construction technicians use it to find heat leaks in faulty thermal insulation and to improve the efficiency of heating and air conditioning systems.

It is also used as a non-destructive testing (NDT) method in the aerospace and defence industries to inspect structures without contact. This can reveal defects such as corrosion; cracking; disbonds; delamination; impact damage and moisture ingress. Using a high-resolution camera allows for detailed analysis of the results and a clear picture of the situation.

While the term surveillance has a long history, its meaning continues to shift in response to technological, political and social change. It is used in diverse discourses – public health, epidemiology, security and policing, business, workplaces and more – and has varying connotations in each of these areas. Its ambiguous nature is a source of debate and calls for more dialogue across disciplines. Those who take the view that surveillance can be benign and even beneficial argue that it should not be seen as a threat to privacy, but rather as information for action. (Stoddart, 2021). However, these arguments often fail to consider the specific context and comportment of surveillance.
